What a great way to start a 5-day stretch of 4 games, yeah?
LeKing scored 26 and sat out the entire 4th quarter of play at MSG last night, and appeared to be resting his head on Big Z's shoulder while watching the 3rd string Cavaliers finish off the New York Knicks (If someone found a photo of this somewhere, please let me know). The Wine and Gold bench played really well, the Cavs were up by like 100 at one point, and the whole squad just looked very in sync as they remain in first place, 2.5 games above the Evil Pistons. In recent years past, Cleveland had consistency problems and would frequently drop games to sad teams such as the Knicks from time to time. Hence, records and playoff seeds not reflecting powerhouse championship teams. But this year is different.
The last few years, the Cavs were called a "playoff team", because we didn't have talent level and depth to run through all the teams we should run through in the regular season. Then, during the playoffs, King would lead us passed the Wizards and/or Nets or what have you, and the he would slug it out with the heavyweights hoping for some kind of help from our role players. The Spurs swept our beloved Cavs because they were WAYYYY deeper, and they completely isolated LeBron and stopped him from driving the lane (unlike the Wizards who, last year, tried to do this but looked ridiculous putting him to the floor every time he had the ball). But, we had Eric Snow, Damon Jones, and Larry Hughes.
Mo Williams has been a fantastic pickup and has allowed Delonte to play his natural position. The results have been orgasmic, as they really know how to make teams pay for leaving them open to go cover the best player in the league. But this new team with its fancy new back court has yet to be REALLY tested. At 11-3, CLE has only really played 3 or 4 tough teams, and they could and should win all of these games in this current 5-day stretch (OKC, GS, MIL). And looking at my handy pocket schedule, next month should see only as many losses is not less than this month's great start. I mean, these guys can legitimately win 60 games this year, but I will wait until we see a tough West Coast schedule and more of the better East teams for further speculation on such an achievement.
How bout those Knicks, huh? OOOOOWEE do they suck somethin' fierce. What's so pathetic about that organization is that they have been looking ahead to a free agency season for 4 goddamned years. You know how miserable it'll be for them if they eff that up? Right now, they got rid of their best players for a move they want to make TWO EFFIN' YEARS DOWN THE ROAD, they have a coach that still thinks he's coaching the Pheonix Suns, and the only reason anyone still comes to these games is because the hipsters and celebs like to watch our best player come to town. PATHETIC. Seriously, it is so much nicer being a Cavs fan now than it is to be a Knicks fan praying things fall into place in a few YEARS.
We got the Thunder tonight, so LBJ will probably get to sit out the entire 4th quarter again. His minutes are down 4 per game, and the rests are coming in chunks. I fuckin' looove winning man... you know? It's better than losing...
